Animal Hospital of Casper - On Line

"Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glint on snow.

I am the gentle autumn rain when you wake in the morning hush.

I am swift, uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there. I do not sleep."

Pet Loss and Grief

Pet loss is not easy whether it be euthanasia, age or sickness, or by accident.  For most, our pets have become one of the family and when the time comes it is as if we have lost a family member.

If your pet cannot enjoy the quality of  life he or she once had or is in pain euthanasia is sometimes the most humane thing you can do for your beloved pet.  This is often one of the hardest decisions to make.  This is a decision you do not have to make alone.  Talk with your friends, family and your veterinarian about this decision, we are all here to support you in your time of need.

After your pet has passed it is natural to feel grief and sorry.  You may experience denial, anger, guilt, depression, acceptance, and resolution.  Sharing your feelings with others often helps when dealing with is array of emotions.  Try to remember the pleasant times you shared with your pet.  You may or may not find that getting another pet may help you rediscover happiness.  You will never be able to replace the memories you have of your lost pet, but you could make new ones and share your love with another.

The loss of a pet is never easy. Being pet owners ourselves, the staff at the Animal Hospital are sympathetic to your grieving. It is often helpful to remember the good times you had with your pet. While there is no easy way to get through this difficult time, we strive to help you in any way we can.
